Open-Xchange Adds OX Notifier
Open-Xchange has introduced OX Notifier for Windows, it was reported recently. The "leading messaging and collaboration cloud suite" now provides alerts to users announcing "new email, meetings and documents". Once alerted, users can access new items directly from their web browsers, eliminating the need for email clients like Microsoft Outlook.

The new OX Notifier add-on supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, and (32- and 64-bit) Windows 7. It can downloaded and installed free of charge by all Open-Xchange Server and Hosting Edition users.

"We live in a world of lightning-fast communications so we integrated notifications right into the base browser version of our client software, making users aware of new information that they can work on immediately," explained Chief Technology Officer at Open-Xchange, Juergen Geck.

Around 55 million users utilize Open-Xchange which provides an Open Source alternative to solutions such as Microsoft Exchange. The solution provides email, calendar, contact and task management options alongside a range of "collaboration features" such a document sharing. It also integrates social networks and provides a number of mobility capabilities, including "push email" and calendar and contact synchronization. Open-Xchange can be operated directly from the desktop and from a range of smartphones, including iPhone, Android, Windows-based devices.
