Paul Maritz Steps Down from Pivotal Software CEO Position
Paul Maritz has stepped down from the CEO position at software company Pivotal Software, Inc. The company, which has headquarters in Palo Alto, California, USA, is a subsidiary VMware, Inc. – a US-based cloud and virtualization software and services company that was founded in 1998. Pivotal Software offers a range of products and services, particularly cloud-based data and analytics applications. It bills itself as being able to transform a “traditional enterprise into a modern software company” through its “open cloud native platform and agile software development capabilities”.

Mr. Maritz leaves Pivotal Software after spearheading efforts that have driven the company into a $100 million business. He is a 35-year technology veteran who previously held executive positions at Microsoft (where he spent 14 years) and VMware (where he was CEO). He left VMware in 2012 to lead Pivotal Software. He will be replaced by Mr. Rob Mee, the founder of Pivotal Labs, but he will remain with the company as Executive Chairman of Pivotal Software's Board of Directors.

“My time as CEO of Pivotal has been one of the most important and rewarding experiences of my career. I would like to thank everyone who has been on the journey with me, and I look forward to partnering with Rob and the global community of Pivots to continue to use technology in new ways and to help our customers do amazing things for the world,” wrote Mr. Maritz on the company’s blog.
