Rackspace Announces Dedicated Virtualized Servers

September 12, 2008
September 12, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Rackspace (http://www.rackspace.co.uk/) has announced it is adding dedicated virtualized servers to its range of offerings, it was reported recently. The move comes as part of the company’s “ongoing virtualization initiative in EMEA”.

Rackspace’s virtualization platform is built on VMware’s “third-generation virtualization software suite” and enables businesses to meet the demands of high growth and fluctuations in capacity by “making scaling easier through rapid Virtual Machine provisioning”. It will be based on dedicated physical hardware and include the option of hybrid virtual and physical hosted environments.

"We work closely with our customers on the type of products they need to help their business work more efficiently, and are excited to announce a virtualization platform that will provide greater flexibility to meet performance and capacity needs,” explained Rackspace EMEA Managing Director Brian Thomson. “Customers who were looking to adopt virtualization told us that security was a concern so we have developed our virtual servers to provide protection against unanticipated traffic spikes and security breaches. This enables customers to gain all the benefits of virtualization while reducing the associated risks.”

The move follows Rackspace’s launch of a virtualization offering in the US earlier this year. The company has a number of virtual machines under management globally. The company maintains a team of VMware Certified Engineers to provide customers with the “technical expertise needed to design and leverage a virtualized system”.

"Virtualization is still an evolving technology, and we believe this is just the beginning for Rackspace,” explained Mr. Thomson. “Our RackLabs research and development department continues to work with partners such as VMware, Microsoft and XenSource to make generational leaps in the virtualization hosting arena. We expect future releases of Rackspace Virtualization Hosting to include enhanced disaster recovery, storage and scaling capabilities."

Rackspace bills itself as “the world’s leader and specialist in hosting” and delivers “computing-as-a-service” services. The company offers award-winning Fanatical Support® and has featured in the top 30 of both the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For list, 2008, and the Financial Times Great Place to Work Awards, 2008.
