Open cloud company
Rackspace has enhanced its hybrid cloud offering with additional security features with the addition of the Brocade Vyatta vRouter - a software network appliance that provides firewall capabilities and Virtual Private Network (VPN) gateway functionality.
With headquarters in San Antonio, Rackspace is the founder of the OpenStack open-source operating system for cloud computing. The company caters to a customer base of around 200,000 businesses worldwide and operates a global network of data centers. Rackspace specializes in Hybrid clouds, and the addition of the Brocade Vyatta vRouter provides its Hybrid cloud offerings with a range of physical firewalls and load balancers, threat and traffic management features and log management options, as well as web application firewall capabilities.
The Brocade Vyatta vRouter is an on-demand solution that provides ideal protection from a range of cyber threats. The system allows users to select physical and virtual devices to establish optimum networking and security functions. It is particularly useful for businesses storing business critical information. Ecommerce companies can also use the solution to enhance stored customer data security and online transaction details.
The solution supports zone- and time-based firewalling and enables users to establish a VPN tunnel from their data center to the Rackspace Hybrid Cloud. Users can also increase cloud infrastructure security with a network-based firewall that protects data while inspecting network activity and intercepting threats. In addition, customers can build application tiers on networks that are removed from each other and build connectivity between isolated networks.
"We’re expanding the reach of our hybrid cloud portfolio by giving customers more choices for security and networking solutions to use across their public, private and dedicated cloud environments," explained Rackspace's CTO, John Engates. "To complement our existing physical firewall capabilities, the Brocade Vyatta vRouter now delivers virtual firewall and advanced networking solutions that enable customers to connect their data centers with the Rackspace Hybrid Cloud."
