October 11, 2005 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) Israeli ICANN accredited registrar Domain The Net yesterday announced the launch of pre-registration for domain names with the .EU extension. .EU domain names are intended for companies and organizations who wish to reflect the fact that they have a business or business activity in the European Union (EU) and who wish to protect their brand names and intellectual property within the region. As Domain The Net believes such domains will be used alongside companies current domains (with the more traditional .COM, .NET, and .ORG extensions), pricing has been set at the relatively low price of 15 EUROS per year.
"The launch of .EU is the end of a process led by the European Union, and which one of its aims is to help companies from all over the world to better integrate their activities in EU countries," commented Ambassador Ramiro Cibrian-Uzal, European Commission's delegation in Israel, who attended the .EU launch.
Domain The Nets .EU service is provided in conjunction with a British company that registers domains and leases them out to interested parties and commercial entities. Alongside the .EU Domain The Net provides registration services for domains with over 300 different extensions.
