An article in the online edition of the Hindu newspaper states that a recent report predicts that by 2022 India will benefit from one million additional jobs driven by its booming cloud computing sector. The report, provided by ‘
Great Learning’ - an ‘ed-tech’ platform for executives - suggests the boom in cloud computing on the sub-continent sees companies investing more than four times as much in cloud solutions as is spent on traditional IT. This is creating a steady stream of new positions for IT professionals with cloud computing skills.
The Indian cloud computing market is currently valued at $2.2 billion. This will see annual growth at a rate of 30% to $4 billion by 2020. The report suggests that future IT expenditure is likely to focus on private, public or hybrid cloud infrastructure, hence the shift from more traditional data center-based positions IT positions, to cloud computing positions.
“A quick search on popular job boards shows hundreds of open jobs in various roles that require cloud computing expertise. An estimated 1 million new jobs will be created in India by the year 2022 as more companies adopt cloud technology,” the report suggested. These jobs are likely to well paid when compared to traditional IT engineer positions, with entry-level cloud professionals likely to receive Rupees 5-7 lakhs ($7,000-$9,900).
