Robin Chase Joins the Board of Directors of Web Host Tucows
Robin Chase has joined the Board of Directors of web host Tucows. The company, which is located in Toronto, Canada, offers a range of services including network access and domain name registration. The company is also behind domain name platform OpenSRS and mobile phone service Ting. Ms. Chase was the founder of Zipcar - the world's largest car sharing and car club service, which provides an “alternative to traditional car rental and car ownership”.

Zipcar gave members “on-demand access” to cars on an hourly or daily basis. She also founded French company Buzzcar, which did not directly offer members its own cars, but rather brought car owners and drivers together in a car sharing option. She is the founder and chairman of Veniam’Works, which “turns vehicles into WiFi hotspots to build and operate city-scale vehicular networks that expand wireless coverage”.

“Throughout our history, we have always offered services that involve and empower users as alternatives to services that alienate them or take them for granted,” suggested Elliot Noss, the CEO of Tucows. “That was profoundly true of OpenSRS, our domain name platform for web hosting companies, versus Network Solutions, the incumbent in 1999. It is true of Ting, our mobile phone service, versus Verizon or AT&T today. Robin understands as well as anyone how the Internet can level the playing field and put tremendous power into the hands of customers. Her passion and experience will be invaluable to us across our business units.”
