SK Holdings C&C (SK Holdings) and IBM – traditionally known as ‘Big Blue’ – have formed a partnership on a range of cloud activities in South Korea. SK Holdings, whose headquarters are in Seoul, bill themselves as offering “total IT/ICT services spanning consulting, setup, operation and convergence services”. The company offers a range of services including cloud computing, Big Data solutions, IoT, and enterprise applications. It selected IBM as a partner in a bid to offer cloud infrastructure services that will “help businesses digitally transform into the new era of cloud computing”.
IBM, whose headquarters are in Armonk, New York, United States, is a globally recognized brand with a strong tradition in software and hardware solutions. Over recent years the company has been transforming itself into a cloud company, particularly with its purchase of SoftLayer. Over the next five years over $200 million will be invested in developing cloud solutions and services for businesses in a number of industries.
SK Holdings will leverage the IBM Cloud to establish solutions for the “public, financial services, telecommunications and manufacturing” sectors. Together the two companies will also deliver SK Holdings’ Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions through the IBM Cloud. The partnership gives SK Holdings the ability to leverage all aspects of the IBM Cloud including “bare metal servers, virtual servers, storage, security, networking and other hybrid cloud services”.
"The collaboration with IBM will ensure that our customers will be able to implement their systems and services based on the same cloud anywhere around the world quickly and without any initial costs," explained SK Holdings’ CEO and President Jung-Ho Park. "With our IT services and convergent Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions we will open the era of ready-made IT solutions for companies across Korea."
