Small to Medium-sized Businesses in the United Kingdom Failing to Adopt Cloud Storage
Small to medium-sized businesses in the United Kingdom are failing to adopt cloud storage, a recent report by Icomm Technologies has suggested. Part of the Probrand Group, Icomm Technologies offers “managed IT services, pro-active IT support and IT solutions”. The company has been in operation for around 15 years and it has a presence in both Birmingham and Manchester in the United Kingdom. It surveyed a number of UK companies and determined that many are actually rejecting the cloud as far as storage is concerned.

Icomm Technologies’ survey suggests that only 13% of small to medium-sized businesses in the United Kingdom have adopted the cloud for storage, with only 22% of those surveyed suggesting that in future they would adopt the cloud as a primary storage platform. While larger organizations are adopting the cloud quite readily, the survey also suggested that many smaller companies simply question the usefulness of the cloud as far as their companies might be concerned.

While the benefit of the cloud is often cited as being scalability, cloud migration requires cost and manpower and smaller companies are not swayed by the potential savings, with only 8% of those asked suggesting scalability was a major concern as far as they are concerned. Over 60% of those surveyed still use a Storage Area Network (SAN) and 16% utilize Network-attached Storage (NAS) or Direct-access Storage (DAS) solutions.
