Facebook has extended its head office in the United Kingdom. The company has signed a new 15-year contract for office space at the Rathbone Square development near Tottenham Court Road in Central London. The company will lease 227,324 square foot of space for 15 years at a cost of £16.9 million ($26 million) per year. Facebook will receive 30 months of the contract free of charge and staff will move in early 2017.
The news comes in the wake of Facebook’s 430,000 square foot expansion of its headquarters in Palo Alto, California, USA. Facebook is also eyeing retail space in London, a move that is currently under the scrutiny of Westminster City Council as it will require a change in use for property on London’s famous Oxford Street.
“The move to our new offices at One Rathbone Square highlights our commitment to invest and grow our talented teams of people based in London, from engineering and analytics to partnerships and design, who help us connect over a billion people on Facebook across the world,” suggested Robert Cookson, Facebook’s head of real estate in a statement.
