SDL Plc (SDL) has partnered with cloud giant Alibaba. SDL, which has headquarters in Maidenhead, Berkshire, United Kingdom, was established in 1992. The company bills itself as a “global innovator in language translation technology, services and content management”. Its suite of services extends to translation services, web content management, and customer experience management. SDL and Alibaba will cooperate on a web hosting service targeting customers in Asia.
Alibaba is a globally recognized Chinese brand with a broad range of activity including a platform for global wholesale trade that provides access to “millions of products in over 40 different major categories” and buyers in more than 190 countries. Alibaba Cloud (also known as ‘Aliyun’) is cloud arm of Alibaba Group. Established in 2009, it has head offices in Singapore and more than 2.5 million customers. Its partnership with SDL will see the companies establish a co-developed solution that will allow global brands to do digital business. Companies will be able to utilize SDL’s web content management and machine translation solutions (which are hosted on Alibaba Cloud) to “deliver next-generation digital experiences – in any language – for customers across Asia”.
“As a burgeoning economy, many companies are now looking to break into Asia and China to deliver growth,” explained SDL’s Chief Revenue Officer, Thomas Labarthe. “They’re exciting, fast moving markets, but they also hold their own language, and compliance challenges,” “This partnership solves these problems for companies, making it almost effortless to build a local presence and engage with customers across different languages and devices.”
