Software-as-a-Service Company Acquia Helps Australian Government Shift to Drupal Publishing Platform
Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) company Acquia is helping the Australian Government shift its websites to the Drupal publishing platform. Acquia, which was established in 2007 and has headquarters in Andover, Massachusetts, United States, is a Drupal expert and caters to a range of organizations in a number of sectors including government, higher education, publishing, media entertainment and financial services. It is using its Drupal expertise to guide the Australian Government's efforts to standardize hundreds of websites that are currently managed through a range of platforms, a project known as govCMS. Strategic marketing organization Komosion has also been appointed a "delivery partner" for the project.

Drupal is an Open Source (OS) Content Management System (CMS) that powers "millions of websites and applications". Being OS it is free of charge and it is supprted by an active community that produces commercial and non-commercial add-ons for the core platform. These add-ons add a wide range of functionalities to Drupal websites.

"We are excited to have been selected to join Acquia in supporting up to 450 agencies who are forecast to move to this platform over the coming three years," explained John O'Neill, the Managing Director of Komosion. "Organizations in both Government and the private sector have been paying very significant amounts of money to license software," he said. "The govCMS platform frees up scarce resources for Government agencies to concentrate on what matters most - creating an exceptional digital experience for taxpayers."
