OnApp is to acquire virtual server management system provider SolusVM. SolusVM's solutions are utilized by a wide range of Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) hosting providers and the OnApp acquisition increases SolusVM's presence in the IaaS arena. Financial details were not released.
The move allows SolusVM to access infrastructure housed in the "world’s largest public cloud", OnApp Federation - a marketplace for "service provider-to-service provider" trade in compute, RAM, storage, and CDN capacity. It adds 2,000 SolusVM service providers to OnApp Federation.
Established in 2010, OnApp has headquarters in London and a presence in the EU, U.S. and Asia-Pacific. It employs around 140 staff. The company's software is currently utilized by around 3,000 service providers in 87 countries. Adding SolusVM to OnApp allows service providers to resell services Xen, KVM, VMware and OpenVZ-based services, and allows providers to offer "the full spectrum of Infrastructure-as-a-Service products, from bare-bones cloud servers running on SolusVM, to fully integrated cloud, bare metal, hybrid smart servers, storage and CDN running on the OnApp platform".
“This is very cool news for OnApp and SolusVM customers, and, we hope, for the whole hosting industry,” explained Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of OnApp. “This is a significant transaction that adds a few million to our revenue, a large number of customers to our community, and a new OnApp product that enables the kind of streamlined, bare-bones cloud that developers love. It’s a perfect complement to the fully integrated cloud, dedicated, CDN and storage services that the core OnApp platform brings to service providers.”
