Spiderhost Data Center Survives Second Hurricane Unscathed

September 8, 2004
Company delivers on 100 percent uptime to its customers during Hurricane Frances

Orlando, FL. (September 8, 2004) – Spiderhost (www.Spiderhost.com), central Florida’s largest privately held Internet service provider, is proud to announce today that the company’s data center remained online with power and connectivity at 100 percent capacity during and after the Category 2 Hurricane Frances storm that hit central Florida over the weekend. This marks the second catastrophic event that the Spiderhost data center has been able to withstand without losing a second of uptime for its customers.

While hundreds of thousands of central Florida businesses have lost power and productivity time over the past month due to hurricanes Charley and Frances, Spiderhost business customers have remained online and secure throughout the duration and aftermath of both storms.

“We are extremely pleased that our customers were able to avoid any downtime as a result of Hurricane Frances,” said Dale Frohman, president of Spiderhost. “So many people have been affected by both Frances and Charley and so much damage has been done across the region, we feel very fortunate that our infrastructure has held strong throughout both events. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those still dealing with the aftereffects of these storms.”

Spiderhost’s data center is secured 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The company’s data center was able to withstand the heaviest elements of the storm thanks to the redundant AC/DC power and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems in place to ensure that customer equipment is up and running even in the event of an extended utility failure. In addition, the center’s 2000 kw CAT generator was deployed to run the entire site at full load for at least 24 hours without refueling. The advanced monitoring devices enabled Spiderhost to constantly check the facility’s critical systems during the storm.
