December 13, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Virtualization and automation company SWsoft (http://www.swsoft.com) is to change its name to "Parallels" in 2008, the company announced today. Alongside the name change announcement came news of a new ‘vision’ the company is calling "Optimized Computing". In the company’s words, Optimized Computing “focuses on providing consumers, business and service providers with the industry's broadest portfolio of multi-platform virtualization and automation software”.
Key to the vision of Optimized Computing is the Parallels Open Platform, which “brings together desktop and server virtualization plus system and business automation assets” in conjunction with partner solutions for use in “on-premise, hosted and software-as-a-service (SaaS) usage models”.
"This is the first in a series of moves that will help our customers and partners realize the benefits of what we are calling 'Optimized Computing'," explained Serguei Beloussov, CEO, SWsoft. "This means enhancing Windows, Linux, Mac, x86 and ia64-based bare metal systems with innovative hypervisor-based virtualization, container-based virtualization and a suite of complementary automation solutions. Truly optimized computing requires virtualization, system automation and business automation components - which our company is unique in providing."
The company will shortly begin using its new name and a corporate logo that “symbolizes the company’s new vision”. SWsoft and Parallels websites will become www.parallels.com in 2008. In addition, the company will introduce a number of new products in 2008 that will “help deliver on the company vision”. These include version 4.0 of Virtuozzo virtualization software, a server-based hypervisor, and “major updates” to Parallels Desktop and Parallels Workstation. The company will also introduce virtualization management software that will manage Virtuozzo, Parallels and popular third-party virtualization technologies in a single solution. SWsoft products will be renamed gradually and strategically - SWsoft PEM and HSPcomplete will be renamed Parallels System Automation and Parallels Business Automation.
