Intel is leading investment in OpenStack B2B cloud computing services company, Mirantis Inc. The company, which was established in 1968, has headquarters in Santa Clara, California, USA. It is a globally recognized brand name famed for semiconductor manufacturing. It will lead a $100 million investment in Mirantis in a move that underscores its cloud services focus. Others involved in the investment round include Goldman Sachs, August Capital, Insight Venture Partners, and Ericsson.
Mirantis, which has headquarters in Mountain View, California, USA, specializes in the “development and support” of OpenStack. The company provides its customers with the technology and support they need to establish and operate Open Source cloud infrastructures. It experienced 150% year-on-year growth and has a presence in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Austin, Texas and Grenoble, France, Tokyo, Japan and Hong Kong. Its latest investment will enable Mirantis to enhance the enterprise features of its solutions and facilitate their adoption. OpenStack was launched in 2010. It is software built developed by the Open Source community but led by the OpenStack Foundation. It is currently one of the leading cloud solutions to be utilized by enterprises worldwide. Alongside its cash injection, Intel will be collaborating with Mirantis and providing technical support as a component of its “Clouds for All” initiative.
“Our investment in Mirantis is the next step in bringing open cloud infrastructure to the entire industry as part of Intel’s ‘Cloud for All’ initiative,” explained Intel’s Data Center Group Senior Vice President and General Manager, Diane Bryant in a statemenrt posted on Mirantis’ website. “As enterprises embrace public, private and hybrid cloud strategies, they need choices in their infrastructure software. OpenStack is an ideal open solution for cloud-native applications and services, and our collaboration with Mirantis is well placed to ensure the delivery of critical new enterprise features helping to create of tens of thousands of clouds.”
