Technology Company Siemens and Cloud Giant Alibaba Cloud Agree to Launch MindSphere
Technology company Siemens AG (Siemens) and cloud giant Alibaba Cloud have agreed to launch MindSphere - an open cloud platform or Internet of Things (IoTQ) operating system - on the Chinese mainland. Siemens has headquarters in Munich, Germany and is a globally renowned provider of technology for a number of industries. Alibaba Cloud – also known as ‘Aliyun’ – is the cloud computing branch of the Alibaba Group and caters to 2.5 million customers globally.

The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Berlin, Germany earlier this year after agreeing to work on ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) activity in China. The latest agreement between Siemens and Alibaba Cloud sets out an action plan for implementation of MindSphere. MindSphere was developed by Siemens and makes operational data accessible through digital applications called ‘MindApps’. These enable businesses in a number of industries to make business decisions based on the huge amounts data the apps process. Typical applications of the MindSphere solution are in area such areas as vehicle fleet management and automated production.

'MindSphere on Alibaba Cloud' will be available to customers in mainland China by the end of March 2019. “We are encouraging our customers around the world to embrace the digital age: with over 250 digital offerings and more than one million connected assets, built on our large installed base around the globe,” explained Siemens’ Digital Factory Division CEO, Dr Jan Mrosik”.
