Telecommunications Company Singtel Plans 570,000-Square-Foot Data Center
Telecommunications company Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) is planning to build a 570,000-square-foot data center at a cost of S$400 million (US$ 286 million). The center will be built in Jurong - an industrial area located in the city state. The move is designed to meet the growing demand for cloud services and co-location both in Singapore and within Asia-Pacific.

Singtel, which is owned by Temasek Holdings, was founded in 1879. The company has headquarters in Singapore and operates with a customer base of around 500 million mobile subscribers. Its new Tier 3-Plus data center will be its ninth in Singapore, and its 13th in the region. The company has suggested a completion date of the third quarter of 2016.

The will center provide a total power capacity of 36 megawatts and offer cloud solutions, smart applications and a range of analytics platforms. The center will be cooled using a recycled NEWater system. Singtel currently has eight centers in Singapore, two in Hong Kong, and two in Australia. “This new data center is designed to meet the critical hosting needs of the financial services industry, government agencies, and cloud and Internet service providers,” explained Singtel’s CEO, Group Enterprise, Mr. Bill Chang.
