Telecommunications Operator Orange Acquires Cloud-based Infrastructure and Services Provider Basefarm Holding
Telecommunications operator the Orange Group (Orange) has acquired cloud-based infrastructure and services provider Basefarm Holding (Basefarm). Orange, which has headquarters in Paris, France, is a globally recognized brand which alongside telecommunications offers a range of services including mobile and internet offerings and mobile payment and banking options. Its acquisition of Basefarm allows Orange to become a “European leader in cloud computing services for the enterprise sector”. The deal is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018.

Basefarm, which has headquarters in Oslo, Norway, was established in 2000. The company is a key European managed services provider offering ‘Big Data’, cloud computing and information security, all packaged as “one service offering”. The company is recognized as a leader in cloud-based infrastructure and services, critical applications management, and data analysis. It has a presence in Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany and Austria and boasts a team of 500 engineers and advisors. In 2017 it generated over 100 million euros ($116.5). Orange’s acquisition of the company was made through its ‘Orange Business Services’ subsidiary and is reported to have cost in the region of 350 million euros ($470 million). Through the acquisition “Basefarm will gain a unique opportunity to accelerate growth in public and private cloud-services while benefitting from access to Orange’s global networks and infrastructure”.

“We are very proud to announce the acquisition of Basefarm, which will mark a major milestone in our international development,” explained Orange Business Services’ CEO Helmut Reisinger. “In particular, the company’s integration will enable us to significantly extend our Big Data and critical application management services on a rapidly consolidating market. In addition to our ability to offer access to public or private cloud infrastructure, it is above all our capacity to propose enriched, automated services to our customers, wherever they are in the world, that will enable us to support companies as they transform onto new, digital models based on cloud-computing, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence,” he added.
