January 20, 2006 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) XO Communications, whose services include telecommunications services to business and web hosting, has announced that its national IP network serviced in excess of 2.2 billion minutes of voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) traffic during the fourth quarter of 2005, a 22 percent increase on the previous quarter. The increase in deployment of the technology indicates significantly improved acceptance of VoIP solutions amongst businesses.
"Over the past year, we introduced new VoIP offerings for businesses and service providers, and the response has been phenomenal," suggested Carl Grivner, CEO of XO Communications. "As we continue to unlock the power of IP and expand our service offerings, we anticipate ongoing interest and growth as more customers migrate from traditional networks to IP-based networks to take advantage of the opportunities and benefits."
XO's solutions run over a softswitch IP network platform powered by Sonus Networks and Juniper Networks. The companys national IP network caters for both traditional traffic and packet-based VoIP traffic. XO avoids congestion and delays by managing the VoIP platform over its private IP network thus ensuring customers receive the same quality and reliability as that of traditional telephone networks.
