UK’s Royal Mail Acquires Cloud Platform Capability of NetDespatch
The United Kingdom’s Royal Mail – the country’s primary mail services provider – has moved into the cloud by acquiring the cloud platform capability of NetDespatch. The Royal Mail, whose headquarters are in London, United Kingdom, was established as early as 1516 and formerly had a monopoly on British postal services. Today the organization is a private company rather than a public enterprise and competes with the likes of TNT Post UK, Parcelforce and DHL.

Its acquisition of NetDespatch enables Royal Mail to leverage data more effectively and better automate processes as well as strengthening its e-commerce capability. Financial aspects of the deal were not released.

NetDespatch offers parcel shipping “made easy through seamless retailer-carrier integration”. It caters to around 100,000 businesses globally and its cloud-based platform allows the company to transfer delivery data to a chosen provider automatically. The company will remain operating as an independent entity.

“Our aim is to make what is a relatively complex process simple, delivering improvements and savings to everyone in the supply chain, from retailer to carrier to consumer,” explained NetDespatch’s Commercial Director Matthew Robertson. “E-commerce is exploding in the run-up to Christmas, and we expect to continue to steam ahead in 2016 and beyond.”
