UK Managed Services Provider eLINIA to Offer Carbon-neutral Hosting

January 31, 2008
January 31, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – UK managed services provider eLINIA (http://www.elinia.com) will offer carbon-neutral hosting, it was reported yesterday. To be able to offer the service, the company has made an agreement with Equinix’s environmentally friendly data center in Slough, UK. eLINIA is one of the first four companies to take space at the new center. The company’s existing data center customers will be offered carbon-neutral hosting through an initiative implemented through carbon offsetting company CO2 Balance.

Power for Equinix’s center is supplied by Slough Heat and Power Energy Centre. The company generates hot water and electricity for businesses by burning wood chips and fiber cubes made from used paper and cardboard.

“Failure to curb emissions will soon be as damaging to a company’s reputation as losing their personal information is today,” explained eLINIA’s Technical Architect, Mr. James Carnie. “Managed hosting is all about giving customers peace of mind, and we see our environmental policy as an extension of that. That’s why it was so important to opt for a service that is technically sound and sustainable for our customers in the long-term.”

“We doubled in size last year alone and anticipate similar levels of growth this year. We plan to increase our presence in the Equinix datacenter to meet this growth and will increase our capacity to help our customers reduce their carbon emissions,” added Mr. James Carnie.
