Web Host and Domain Name Provider Go Daddy Buys M.dot Inc.
In a continuation of its "mobile first" strategy, web host and domain name provider Go Daddy - the world's largest domain name provider - has bought M.dot Inc., owner of an app that allows users to build a mobile optimized website through an IPhone. Terms of the purchase have not been released.

M.dot focuses on developing and managing websites for small businesses, and the inclusion of the app in Go Daddy's suite of services gives 11 million Go Daddy customers the capability to establish and manage websites from their mobile phones. A formal announcement of the purchase was made during the opening ceremony for a new Go Daddy office in Sunnyvale, California.

Founded in June 2012 by Pavel Serbajlo and Dominik Balogh, M.dot has financial support from a range of investors based in California's Silicon Valley. These include companies like Archimedes Labs, Floodgate, and SV Angel. In addition, iTunes App Store has featured M.dot's App on a number of occasions. Once the purchase is finalized, M.dot will be based at the Go Daddy office in Silicon Valley. The company intends to increase M.dot's staffing over the next 12 months, adding an additional 40 staff to make a total of 80 M.dot employees.

M.dot app provides a number of pre-loaded customizable templates with features that include galleries, store location and directions, click-to-call and product/service price lists. The app provides a blog which is integrated with social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and a number of other popular websites such as Youtube, to allow users to post pictures and videos on their blog pages.

Go Daddy's "mobile first" strategy reflects the increase in popularity of mobile devices as a means of accessing the Internet. At present 13% of web traffic is generated by mobile devices - a tenfold increase over the last 3 years. In addition, the number of tablet computers and smartphones in use is now greater than the number of PCs. M.dot leverages this trend by providing Go Daddy customers with a convenient means of managing websites while on the move.

The M.dot app is available here.
