Web Host and Domain Name Provider GoDaddy Makes .UK Domain Names Available to Customers
Web host and domain name provider GoDaddy has made “.UK” domain names available to its customers. GoDaddy is recognized as a leading domain provider managing around 57 million domain names. The company’s overriding business philosophy is to give small businesses the online tools they require for a viable web presence to support their business activity, and that usually starts with a professional domain name.

“.UK” domain names are not the first generic top-level domain (gTLDs) that have represented businesses in the United Kingdom. Domains bearing the “.CO.UK” proved popular, but the new cleaner and simpler “.UK” suffix is expected to be even more popular. 72% of business decision makers suggested that they want the new domain.

The new domain has been established by Nominet, the domain name registry responsible for “.CO.UK” and “.ORG.UK” domains. People currently holding domains bearing the “.CO.UK” suffix have a grace period of 5 years were their “.UK” alternative is not made available to the general public. This gives website owners the ability to avoid cyber squatters and identity fraud.

“Now with the option of a new dot-UK domain, having dot-co-dot-UK can be limiting,” explained Stefano Maruzzi, Vice President Europe Middle East and Africa at GoDaddy. “It is essential that businesses get in quickly and register this new domain name in June to avoid missing out on new opportunities. It’s time to get on board and invest in a domain name that epitomises everything that’s important to British businesses. It’s go time!”
