Web Host and Domain Provider GoDaddy Partners with Spree Commerce on E-commerce Platform
Web host and domain provider GoDaddy has partnered with Spree Commerce on an e-commerce platform. Spree Commerce is an open source commerce platform that allows small businesses to establish online stores. The partnership will establish “the easiest, most flexible and extensible e-commerce platform for small businesses”.

GoDaddy caters to more than 12 million customers worldwide and manages 57 million domain names. The company’s latest move underscores its policy of providing support for small businesses in their bid for a successful online presence. The new online store options will be available mid-2014 and will complement GoDaddy's other small business-related offerings, which include domain names, Website Builder tools, Microsoft Office 365, and personalized business email addresses.

Established in 2008, Spree Commerce offers a modular open source e-commerce platform that is easily customized. An open source community of around 500 developers has been involved in creating the platform which automates back-end operations for a range of storefronts through Spree Commerce hub.

"Many of our customers do not have the technical expertise to build a successful online store, yet they all want to serve their customers who are increasingly online and mobile," explained Sandeep Grover, Head of Product for Presence and Commerce at GoDaddy. "With GoDaddy, our vision is to make it simple for any small business to create an eye-catching store that will stand out and help them sell more. With Spree Commerce on the back-end, we'll be translating the great open-source work of the Spree community into a store experience available to the masses."
