After launching an additional seven new domain extensions today, web host and domain registrar
GoDaddy is now offering domains with 14 new generic top-level domain name extensions. Today’s launch offers GoDaddy customers access to domain extensions that include .PHOTOGRAPHY, .CAMERA, .EQUIPMENT, .GALLERY, .GRAPHICS, .LIGHTING and .ESTATE.
The move is a result the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) body extending the number of domain extensions from the 22 (which include more traditional names such as .COM and .NET) to over 700. A new extension will be released every week until 2015. According to GoDaddy the new extensions “provide unique alternatives to traditional extensions, expanding the range of choices and unlocking tremendous inventory to better identify websites based on their focus or specialty”.
"It can be challenging to stand out on the Web, and domain extensions like these make sure you get noticed because they describe what the website or business actually offers," explained Mike McLaughlin, GoDaddy Vice President and General Manager Domains. "This is a historic time in the tech industry, as the new domain variations add more specificity to one's online identity. These new names are often more memorable and better represent each business."
