OVHcloud (OVH) has announced it is entering the tape storage business. OVHcloud is a business unit of Roubaix, France-based OVH, a globally recognized provider of Virtual Private Servers (VPS), dedicated servers, and a range of other web hosting-related services. Established in 1999 and part of OVH Groupe SAS, it provides an extensive global data center network. The company leads globally in terms of the size of its data center operations and has the third-largest number of physical servers in the world. Its new tape-storage-as-a-service services see OVH collaborate with Atempo and IBM.
Founded in 1992 and with headquarters in Massy, France, the software vendor has a global presence and specializes in several areas. These include backup, recovery, and archive services. It also has data protection, file archiving, email archiving, disaster recovery, data synchronizing, and endpoint protection offerings. Together the three companies will help businesses meet Europe’s strict data sovereignty regulations by managing the new service from four data centers and dedicated facilities in France.
Alongside Atempo’s Miria platform, the new service will utilize IBM’s Enterprise 3592 Tape technology. Beyond cost and longevity benefits, tape enables OVH’s corporate customers to organize data more efficiently and gives them the ability to restore data stored between the previous 10 minutes to 12 hours. Pricing details of the service have yet to be released.
“We are very pleased that the convergence of IBM, Atempo and OVHcloud expertise results in a reliable and sovereign data preservation solution,” explained OVHcloud's Chief Sales Officer, Sylvain Rouri. “Public and private organizations will benefit from a unified and highly secure storage experience with our high-performance solutions built in a trusted cloud.”
