Web host WP Engine
is offering a scholarship to “help train the next generation of tech leaders” in the Republic of Ireland. WP Engine, which has headquarters in Austin, Texas, United States, was established in 2010. The company specializes in managed hosting services with particular focus on WordPress – an Open Source (OS) Content Management System (CMS) which underpins around 20% of all websites currently on the internet. WP Engine’s scholarship will be managed by the Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) in Ireland.
The four-year scholarship will be part of LIT’s Leaders@LIT student scholarship fund and take place at the start of the next academic year. The scholarship is designed to “support an undergraduate student who is passionate about technology”. Known as the “WP Engine Future Technology Leaders” scholarship, it will be awarded to a student involved in any technology-related field with the aim of allowing the student to fully concentrate on study without having to worry about finances.
Alongside its support of the Leaders@LIT student scholarship programme, WP Engine recently opened a Technical Support and Innovation Center in Limerick which will employ 100 people over three years. Both underscore the company’s commitment to the area.
“Just as WP Engine believes the Web should be universally accessible so too should opportunities for higher education,” explained WP Engine’s Chief Financial Officer, April Downing.
“As a company, one of our core values is a commitment to giving back to our communities. With this scholarship, we are making an investment to inspire and help students at LIT excel in their studies and become future leaders in computing and technology by breaking down the financial barriers that prevent them from entering these fields.”
