Web Hosting and Domain Name Provider Go Daddy Celebrates Legislation to Protect Children on the Internet

November 15, 2007
November 15, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Web hosting and domain name provider Go Daddy is celebrating the introduction of legislation to protect children on the Internet, the company announced yesterday. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a number of child protection bills including the “PROTECT Our Children Act of 2007” and “Keeping the Internet Devoid of Sexual Predators Act of 2007.”

Go Daddy has been actively involved in a number of activities designed to ensure the Internet is safe for children, prompting U.S. Representative Harry Mitchell to suggest, “Go Daddy has been an important leader in our community and the international Internet community when it comes to keeping our children safe. They have made it a priority to ensure our children are protected and offenders are prosecuted. It is always encouraging to see businesses take a leadership role in an important cause like this.”

The bills passed provide funding for “public awareness and educational campaigns”, establishing a special counsel to prosecute child exploitation, strengthening the “Web Crimes Against Children” task force and making it a “crime for adults to lie about their ages online in order to lure minors for sexual conduct”.

“We take this issue to heart and devote significant resources to keep children safe on the Internet,” said a Go Daddy lawyer. “We believe, as the world’s dominant registrar and a leading hosting provider, it is our duty to promote public policy like this. We do it because it’s the right thing to do.”

Go Daddy manages more than 24 million domain names and hosts three million Web sites. The company has a customer base of around 4.6 million and is famed for its Super Bowl advertising campaigns. “We definitely know how to keep our advertising edgy and fun, but we are absolutely committed to the fight against child predators and child pornography on the Internet,” explained Bob Parsons, Go Daddy’s CEO and Founder. “What’s more important than keeping our children safe?”
