February 10, 2006 – (HOSTSEARCH) – As a response the Bush administration’s comments on monitoring American citizens, Portland-based ThinkHost (http://www.thinkhost.com) has pledged support to the American Civil Liberties Union, Center for Constitutional Rights, Global Exchange and a number of other non-profit organizations that oppose the Bush Administration agenda. The company, whose operations are powered by 100% renewable energy, has also pledged support to organizations focusing on sustainability.
The company’s pledge is though more than just moral support. ThinkHost has initiated a ‘2-to-1’ matching program for customers donating to the organizations it has pledged support to. This means that people donating one dollar will receive two dollars of free Internet web hosting services (up to an annual total of $50).
Discussing the move, ThinkHost's Executive Director, Vladislav Davidzon suggested, "I am quite frankly growing increasingly embarrassed at the actions of my government. This administration is actively working to destroy the very things that make this country great -- our freedoms and our civil institutions. The recent announcement that they have some absurd right to spy on American citizens was the last straw. It seems almost as though Mr. Bush and I were taught different editions of the Constitution, and he needs someone to explain to him that what he is doing is not only wrong, but is plainly illegal. We are throwing our weight behind the groups that are exposing the lies and seek to actually rectify the issues - real solutions."
ThinkHost has a background of supporting a number of causes. Established in 1999 the company has provided free hosting services to numerous non-profit organizations. More recently members of the company’s staff have been involved in rallying against “the unlawful invasion of Iraq”. Other groups ThinkHost supports through its "Supporting Social Change" program include GreenPeace, Doctors without Borders, Planned Parenthood and Veterans for Peace.
