Workload management and optimization solutions provider
Univa Corporation (Univa) has partnered with Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) provider UberCloud. Univa has headquarters in Chicago, United States and offices in Toronto, Canada and Munich, Germany. The company bills itself as “the leading independent provider of software-defined computing infrastructure and workload orchestration solutions” and offers “intelligent cluster management software” that enhances efficiency and accelerates migration to hybrid clouds. The company has also signed a reseller agreement with UberCloud and the cooperation between the two companies will see UberCloud resell Univa Grid Engine and related Univa products to its “community of HPC customers” in a range of industries.
UberCloud, which has headquarters in Los Altos, California, United States, was established in 2013. The company is an “online community, marketplace, and software container factory” with a mission is to “make High Performance Computing (HPC) a reality for every engineer”. While HPC traditionally requires an “on-premise computing cluster” with prohibitive operational costs, UberCloud “helps research and development organizations transform themselves by adopting a cloud-first mindset” and benefit from HPC while reducing costs. Both companies have “a long history of collaboration” and pioneered the application of containers to HPC. They integrated UberCloud parallel application containers with Univa Grid Engine in 2017.
"When organizations run HPC applications in the cloud, the meter starts running immediately," explained Univa’s CEO Gary Tyreman. "It's not just infrastructure and software costs, but the larger issue of engineering productivity that's at issue. By deploying packaged HPC applications in containers, and managing them with Univa Grid Engine, users become productive immediately. They can focus on their work rather than spending time troubleshooting complicated HPC software stacks."
