Yahoo Mail Services Upgrade Announced
Yahoo recently announced a number of upgrades to its successful Yahoo Mail services. The announcement was made December 11, 2012 by the company’s CEO Marissa Mayer through the company’s corporate blog. Ms. Mayer is Yahoo’s forth CEO in recent times and joined the company July 16, 2012.

The announced changes are a response to user feedback and will help keep Yahoo Mail pertinent in a very competitive ‘cloud’ email environment. They include revamped desktop and mobile interfaces with a “consistent look and feel across devices” and easier access across a range of platforms, including new iPhone and Android Yahoo Mail apps. “We've redesigned the new version of Yahoo Mail with speed in mind - getting through your emails is faster than ever before," wrote Ms. Mayer’s on the Yahoo blog.

The changes have Ms. Mayer’s stamp all over them – prior to working for Yahoo Mail she was integral component of a Google strategy that made Gmail one on Google’s most successful products. She was Google’s first female developer and led Gmail and related products for over 10 years.

Google’s success lies in its continual adoption of free services for its email users, but Google is not the only service which currently competes with Yahoo Mail. Microsoft recently announced a new take on its iconic Hotmail email service, branded under a new name - Outlook.com. The upgrade includes new elements like social network integration and a new look and feel consistent with that of other Microsoft offerings.
