AIT Lets Businesses Test-drive the Web

Business can try out the Internet for a year through a plan from AIT, Inc (http://ait.com) that provides free hosting to new domain registrations. Research shows that millions of small businesses don’t have an Internet presence, missing out on a global customer population in the hundreds of millions. “This is a no-risk means through which business owners can see the potential the Internet affords them for reaching new markets and expanding sales,” said Clarence Briggs, AIT’s Chief Executive Officer. “Their only investment is in a domain name and lunch costs more than that does nowadays.”

The free plan comes with 300 MB of disk space and 20GB of monthly data transfer, free setup, an online control panel, and a spam blocker. Users get their own domain, such as mybusiness.com, without the pop-ups and other advertising mechanisms that typically accompany free hosting.

Several research companies have estimated that online sales will reach 65-billion dollars this year, which may serve to convince skeptics to test the waters. “Even people who don’t necessarily make purchases online use the Internet for research purposes, to compare vendors and prices in searching for the best deal,” said the company’s COO Kirk deViere. “Companies without a web presence take themselves out of the game before it even begins.”

As their domains come up for renewal, businesses will have the option of renewing and of decided if they want buy a hosting plan. “We’ll see if a year’s worth of Internet traffic and lead generation has dispelled any doubts about doing business on the web,” said Briggs.
