Alipay is “the world's largest mobile and online payments platform” and provides payment services for “tens of millions of small and micro merchants”. It was established by Jack Ma’s Alibaba Group in 2004 and has headquarters in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. It has partnered with over 200 financial institutions globally. According to the company “over 520 million people are now active Alipay users”. Reprise Hosting’s choice of Alipay as a payment gateway was based on growing interest for its services amongst Chinese consumers.
