DreamHost has announced a new document processing capability for Remixer, its conversational AI website and app builder. The update allows users to create and edit websites using information stored in their own documents, reducing the need to manually copy and paste content into AI prompts.
With the new feature, Remixer can process PDF, CSV, Markdown, and plain text files while generating or updating a website. Users can provide existing business materials, such as restaurant menus, service descriptions, mission statements, program information, or other content, and allow Remixer to use that information when building their site.
Turning Existing Documents into Website Content
Creating website content can be one of the biggest obstacles for businesses and organisations building a new online presence. While Remixer can already generate an initial website from a text prompt, customers often have the information they need stored elsewhere.
The new document processing capability allows users to provide that existing content directly to Remixer.
For example, a restaurant can upload a menu instead of manually entering each item, while a digital agency can provide a service catalogue and a nonprofit organisation can supply its programme descriptions.
Remixer processes the contents of uploaded files during website generation and editing, allowing the information to be incorporated into the site rather than simply being displayed as downloadable attachments.
"Many of our customers already have ‘the thing’ they want on their website sitting in a PDF somewhere," said Ralph Castro, VP of Product at DreamHost. "Asking them to retype its contents into a chat box was a blocker to entry that didn’t need to exist, so we happily built document intake into Remixer."
A More Complete First Draft
The document processing update is designed to help Remixer produce websites that are closer to completion from the beginning.
Users can combine natural-language instructions with existing documents to provide Remixer with more context and source material. This can help reduce the amount of manual content preparation required before a website can be published.
By using customers' existing files alongside prompts, Remixer can work with more detailed information during the website creation process and help streamline subsequent updates.
Unified Media Library
The latest Remixer release also introduces a unified media library for each project.
Images, videos, audio files, and documents can now be managed within a shared project-level asset store. This replaces the previous image-focused library, which pooled assets across projects under a single account.
The new structure is designed to make it easier for users to organise and manage the different types of media used across individual websites and applications.
Permanent File URLs
DreamHost has also introduced permanent file URLs for files stored in public buckets.
Public files now receive stable links that can be copied directly from the storage interface. Previously, these links expired after 15 minutes.
The change provides a more convenient way for users to reference publicly accessible files and manage assets used by their websites and applications.
