August 6, 2008 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) iomart has opened a new data center facility, it was announced recently. The UK-based data center and managed hosting services company purchased the center, which is located in the historical English city of Nottingham. The company took 8 months to upgrade the center to its specifications.
Offering around 400 square meters of space, the center was designed with power and environmental impact in mind and has its own 1 Megawatt onsite fully redundant power supply and the latest in energy efficient cooling systems. According to the company, its new cooling down flow units utilize 7% less power than the units they replace and use of Hot Gas Re-Heat (HGRH) technology allows the data center to maintain the room temperature by recycling heat expelled by the servers.
The data center industry is a voracious user of power and were serious about playing our part in reducing our impact on the environment, while leading the industry in our delivery of managed hosting services, explained Chief Executive Officer of iomart, Mr. Angus MacSween. The opening of our Nottingham facility, our third in the UK, represents another significant step for us in achieving our aim of being recognised as the UKs leading managed hosting and data center services Company.
Our 100% business uptime guarantee is no idle boast, continued Mr. Angus. A complete one source managed hosting service - from domain to data center - is very different to whats on offer from other competing hosting providers, who traditionally provide either pure colocation space and power or rely on third party data centers for their hosting offerings, which puts us in a very strong position in the market.
As part of its launch in Nottingham, iomart has sent 2500 oak tree saplings - capturing the Sherwood connection - to businesses in the city and surrounding areas, with planting instructions and details of the new data center
iomart has facilities in London and Glasgow, UK and has a fourth facility opening in two weeks in the city of Leicester. According to the company, the network enables it to guarantee continuous uninterrupted service to clients. The company recently issued a report stating a 17% increase in its managed hosting revenue growth.
