Web Host FullHost Announces Availability of Let's Encrypt SSL Certificates
Web host FullHost has announced ‘Let's Encrypt’ SSL certificates are now available to its hosting customers. FullHost, which has headquarters in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and data centers in Vancouver and Toronto, was established in 2004. Catering primarily to Canadian companies, it offers a wide range of hosting products and services including shared hosting, managed WordPress hosting, managed virtual clouds and ‘bare metal’ dedicated servers. The company will now offer SSL certificates “installed by default” for all domains on its hosting platform.

Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, provides security for websites and makes it more difficult for websites to be hacked. It encrypts the connection between a website and browser, protecting sites from intrusion. Alongside the security advantages of SSL, there are also Search Engine Optimization (SEO) benefits – Google gives preference to sites with SSL certificates.

Established in 2015, Let's Encrypt is an “open certificate authority” promoted by the Internet Security Research Group (ISRG). The solution “left the Beta stage” in April 2016 and by that stage “millions of website domains had activated SSL certificates through the program”. By the end of November 2016 that number had increased to 15.2 million domains.
