March 24, 2008 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) Web host Network Solutions has shut down Fitnathemovie.com, a website that was purportedly due to provide access to a documentary film critical of the Koran. Although the 15-minute documentary has yet to be shown to the public, the mere fact a site promising to provide future access to it was available to the public caused outrage amongst Muslims and concern, especially in the Netherlands, about the possibility of riots.
The documentary is the work of Geert Wilders, a Dutch politician renowned for his anti-Islamic leaning. It considers the relationship between the Koran and Islam, which the documentary describes as being "the enemy of freedom".
Network Solutions action was based on a number of complaints the company received about the site. Officially, the site has not been withdrawn but has been suspended pending investigation into whether it contravenes the companys terms of acceptable use policies.
