Web Hosting and Cloud Services Provider DreamHost Adds SSD to Fully-managed Dedicated Server Options
Web hosting and cloud services provider DreamHost has added Solid State Drives (SSD) to its fully-managed dedicated server options. The company, which was established in 1997, caters to around 400,000 customers with a range of services which include different types of hosting and domain registration. Its upgrading of dedicated servers to SSD underscores the company's policy to offer customers the fastest hosting possible.

SSD drives have no moving parts, meaning that they operate more quickly and efficiently than the 'spinning disk' drives that are utilized in more traditional hosting options. The current upgrade comes on the heels of DreamHost's recent upgrading of its DreamPress 2 managed WordPress options to SSD, and means that its entire range of hosting options (shared hosting, Virtual Private Servers (VPS), DreamPress 2, and dedicated servers) now utilize SSD (or offers SSD storage options). The company's managed dedicated server selections also offer multi-core CPUs.

"Frankly this was a long time coming," explained the Vice Preseident of Data Center Operations and Dedicated Hosting Product Manager at DreamHost', Patrick Lane. "Our dedicated servers have been popular for years with users who have wanted more power than shared hosting could provide but weren't comfortable managing their own cloud compute instances on DreamCompute, our public cloud solution. Now they don't have to make the choice — we'll give them a managed environment with plenty of dedicated power to go with it. Boom."
