Web Hosting Provider AIT Adds Free Utilities to Plans

February 2, 2006
February 2, 2006 – (HOSTSEARCH) – Web hosting provider AIT (http://ait.com) has announced it will make a series of open source tools available to its customers. The tools will be added to the company’s web hosting plans with no additional cost to customers and can be accessed through the AIT control panel.

“As technologies mature, it’s incumbent on us to give our customers as much horsepower as possible for managing their web sites and those of their customers,” said Clarence Briggs, AIT’s Chief Executive Officer. “And with open source products, consumers get the ongoing benefit of continuous updates and improvements on each item.”

The utilities that will be available to AIT’s customers include TikiWiki, a PHP content management groupware that provides blogs, newsletters, galleries, calendars, forums and chat rooms, ecommerce packages osCommerce and AgoraCart, PHYMyAdmin, a web-based MySQL databases manager and AWStats, a web site traffic analysis utility that provides information about visitors including number of visitors, where they came from, how long they stayed, what they looked at, authenticity of the visit, etc.

AIT’s inclusion of open source technologies reflects a movement within the industry towards open source software and applications. “AIT has always been a proponent of open source,” said Briggs, “and making these tools available on a mass scale, easily provisioned through customer control panels, shows how far the community has evolved,” he added.
