June 13, 2006 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) Web hosting provider HostMySite (http://www.hostmysite.com) has announced it has employed measures to combat spam that include the adoption of the award-winning Barracuda Spam Firewall - Outbound product. According to HostMySite the system has solved outbound spam abuse and has been implemented to solve incoming email spam and virus problems.
"We send about 75,000 legitimate emails per day per server, so to discover that another 70,000 spam messages per server were also getting through was simply unacceptable," explained CTO of HostMySite.com, Mr. Neil Heuer. "Our reputation as well as the reputations of many of our customers was in jeopardy. We had to quickly find a solution that would turn the tide back in our favor and Barracuda Networks helped us accomplish this."
As the spam Mr. Heuer talked about appeared to be coming from HostMySite.com's email servers, the company was often placed on Real-time Black Lists (RBLs) which resulted in legitimate customer emails being blocked. HostMySite examined a range of solutions but found the Barracuda to have the scalability and capacity to handle the volume of email that passes through its servers each day. "We have blocked over 30 million pieces of spam from being sent from our email servers," added Mr. Heuer. "This is an almost 50 percent increase from what we were able to stop on our own before using the Barracuda Spam Firewall solutions. Needless to say, we are very pleased with the performance of the Barracuda Spam Firewall - Outbound solution."
