WordPress company Automattic Inc. (Automattic) has announced a partnership with web solutions provider DreamHost
. Automattic, which has global headquarters in San Francisco, California, United States, was established in 2005. The company is the name behind some of the internet’s leading solutions - Jetpack, WooCommerce, Longreads, and particularly, WordPress.com.
WordPress is the internet’s leading Content Management System (CMS), underpinning “28% of the internet”. WordPress is an Open Source download that users can install on their servers and use to develop websites. WordPress.com is an online Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) option that provides the same functionality as WordPress. The partnership with Automattic and DreamHost will see Jetpack Premium included with DreamHost’s DreamPress service.
DreamHost has headquarters in Los Angeles, California, United States and offers a range of hosting options. These include shared hosting, Virtual Private Server (VPS), dedicated server hosting, and domain name registration. With its optimized DreamPress managed WordPress hosting solution, the company is very much a WordPress specialist. DreamPress customers will now automatically receive Automattic’s Jetpack Premium (normally $99 per year) “at no extra cost”.
Jetpack “augments WordPress to provide free traffic tools, professional themes, and security services to millions of users”. Automattic’s Jetpack Premium option provides additional automated backups. Jetpack Premium also restores sites hit by attacks and provides “malware scanning, spam-filtering, a video content delivery network, a WordPress-optimized ad program, and priority support”.
“This represents substantial value to any WordPress site owner and furthers our commitment to security and the long-term sustainability and growth of WordPress and its community,” explained the CEO of DreamHost, Dallas Kashuba.
