(http://www.1and1.com) and Open-Xchange (http://www.open-xchange.com/) have partnered to offer 1&1 MailXchange, a “feature-rich email and collaboration service”, it was announced yesterday. 1&1 Internet, which bills itself as “the world's largest web host by known servers”, suggested this hosted alternative to Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint with be available without server management or licensing requirements. The service is also available to Windows Mobile smartphone users.

Open-Xchange can be synchronized with Microsoft Outlook and allows users working in teams to manage email, calendars, contact and tasks in a “centralized document management system”. Entirely web-based, MailXchange is available through any Internet capable computer, anywhere in the world. The solution is especially useful for companies with multiple locations or with roving employees, as it utilizes ‘push technology’ that automatically pushes emails, appointments and tasks directly a user’s account without requiring manual synchronization.

Users can manage up to five separate email accounts within MailXchange. MailXchange incorporates dependability features such as document version management and integrated anti-spam protection. The product includes the domain of the customer’s choice, 5 GB of email account storage and 2 GB of document storage per user.
