LeaseWeb and storage and data management company NetApp have partnered to bring NetApp All Flash FAS storage to LeaseWeb’s customers. LeaseWeb bills itself as “one of the world’s largest hosting brands” and its partnership with NetApp means its entire range of cloud offerings now provide Flash storage as standard. With no moving parts, Flash storage is significantly faster than the “spinning disk” type storage more traditionally associated with web hosting. As a result, LeaseWeb’s customers can expect “reduced latency and increased reliability for business-critical cloud applications”.
LeaseWeb’s new offering provides the best environment for “performance-oriented workloads” and is “especially effective for developers who need to test and redesign new environments quickly”. NetApp All Flash FAS offers a maximum-size AFF cluster with 4 million IOPS at 1ms latency and a throughput of up to 100GB. The platform is already being offered through the company’s Dutch cloud services and will be available in Germany soon. It is available free of additional charge to existing customers. The service will also be available to LeaseWeb Reseller Partners who can “pass along the advantages of SSD storage systems to their own customers”. The company also plans a US and Asia launch.
“Customers will notice that hosted applications will be much more responsive and will run more reliably than they would on storage systems using spinning drives,” explained LeaseWeb’s Manager of Cloud, Robert van der Meulen. “Due to our partnership with NetApp we’re able to offer a level of service that often only large enterprises can afford to deploy, which will be beneficial to our customers and channel partners, who increasingly place their mission critical workloads in the cloud.”
